Fillings

A tooth filling is a material, typically made from amalgam or resin, used in dentistry to "fill" a cavity or small hole caused by tooth decay. Fillings help repair the tooth and prevent further damage.
If a decaying tooth is left untreated, the decay won't go away on its own. It will continue to break down the tooth structure, eventually spreading deeper into the tooth’s pulp (nerve) tissue. This can cause severe pain and discomfort. If left untreated for too long, it may result in tooth loss.
Fillings offer several benefits for dental health:
We will begin by numbing the area of your mouth where the filling will be placed. Next, we will remove any decayed parts of the tooth. Once the area is thoroughly cleaned and free of infection, we will fill the tooth with a malleable material that is shaped, smoothed, and polished to match your other teeth. Depending on the severity of the cavity, we may also place a dental crown or "cap" on top of the affected tooth for added strength. We will then test your bite to ensure the filling doesn’t interfere with your ability to chew, making adjustments as needed.
This entire treatment is quick, and many of our patients are able to eat normally shortly after the procedure.
