Dentures are custom-made devices designed to replace full or partial sets of teeth, allowing you to speak and eat comfortably after tooth loss.
Types of Dentures
Several types of dentures are available, including full, implant-retained, and fixed partial dentures:
- Full Dentures – Full removable dentures replace an entire set of teeth. The top part of the denture covers the roof of your mouth (palate), while the bottom part fits over your lower gums, leaving space for your tongue.
- Fixed Partial Dentures – These dentures use a metal framework to align prosthetic teeth and are attached to your natural teeth. They can serve as an alternative to bridges.
- Implant-Retained Dentures – These dentures are attached to a foundation surgically implanted into the jawbone. They offer a more permanent and stable solution.
Why Do We Need Dentures?
Dentures may be necessary if you have lost most or all of your natural teeth due to decay, injury, or other reasons. Dentures not only restore your smile, but they also provide essential support to your facial muscles and jaw, helping you chew and speak normally again.
Denture Procedure
First, we will remove any remaining teeth to create space for the dentures. Once your gums have healed, we will take impressions of your mouth to create a mold. This mold will be sent to a dental laboratory to fabricate your custom dentures. At your next appointment, we will fit the dentures to ensure they are comfortable and properly aligned.
