Although you may practice good dental care at home (brushing for two minutes daily, flossing, etc.), it's still important to see your dentist regularly for a professional cleaning.
A regular teeth cleaning is recommended at least every 6-12 months to prevent decay and other oral problems that can arise from inadequate dental care.
Why Routine Cleanings?
Regular dental cleanings are essential for maintaining your dental health. These cleanings help you maintain a bright, healthy smile while protecting your teeth from severe damage caused by plaque and tartar buildup when they aren’t thoroughly cleaned at home. Additionally, routine cleanings give your dentist the opportunity to inspect your mouth for any signs of potential dental problems.
Benefits of Cleanings
Attending regular cleanings provides many benefits, including:
- Preventing gum disease
- Reducing the risk of tooth loss from decay or disease
- Eliminating and preventing bad breath
- Giving you a whiter, brighter smile
- Promoting overall dental and oral health
- Allowing your dentist to detect early signs of potential dental complications
Cleaning Procedure
During a routine cleaning, we use specialized dental instruments to gently remove plaque and tartar buildup, including a tool that mists water to wash away debris. After removing tartar, we will polish your teeth using a polishing tool and paste (similar to toothpaste) to create a smooth surface. In some cases, we may also apply a fluoride solution to help strengthen the enamel against future plaque and tartar buildup.
